Jared Diamond's Collapse has been good for me. It removed a vague distaste I'd had for "environ- mentalists." I'm still not too keen on treehuggers, but have a great respect for those, like Diamond, who have looked closely at history to find the pitfalls we're currently running into headlong. It's a powerful book and worth reading for anyone concerned with human life.

We're gonna try something new here. I'll ship my copy to the first person who comments with mailing address (in the U.S.). I won't publish the address, just send you the book. **GAME OVER - it's been claimed!**

My current reading list includes:

"Out Stealing Horses" by Per Petterson, "Dhalgren" by Samuel R. Delany, "Between the Eyes" by David Levi Strauss, "Memoirs of a Muse" by Lara Vapnyar and "On Ugliness" edited by Umberto Eco. Depending on cost and hassle, I may give them away as I finish them and announce it as well.

This is Emalie, photographed in a beautiful old hotel in Nevada several years ago. I really really want to photograph her again, but she's elusive.

Wow quite a to read list.

Out stealing seems like it might be a little depressing.

Dhalgren - wow, looking at the reviews, it looks like a tough read but it also looks to be something I might like. Look forward to your thoughts on this one.

Between the eyes looks like a good read.

Memoirs - looks like you might have taken the cover shot.

On Ugly - a book about how I feel right now. Shaved off my beard after having it for thirty years. But now the area around the corners of my mouth keeps breaking out. I look like a damn 57 year old zit faced teenager. Lucky the wife doesn't mind, well... now she does turn out the lights when we....:)

The wife and I are going to Florida on Friday for vacation. I usually take something to read by the pool and in the evenings when the rest are watching crap TV. Last time I took "Conversations on Consciousness" by Susan Blackmore. This time it's something lighter. I saw a cowboy magazine with Sam Elliot on the cover and since I like him I perused it and found that he is in a movie coming out called "The Golden Compass". It's from a trilogy by Philip Pullman. I looked him up on the net and took some interest. It looks kinda like a Harry Potter type as it has fantasy and talking animals and something called a Daemon woven into the storys. Daemons, which I get from Wikipedia, are from Greek mythology. They are mostly evil except one good one that was honored with libation in the sanctury of Dionysus and since that's where my name comes from I figure the book can't be all bad. Plus I knew I could wrangle a comment about a drink in here some where.:)
They just came out with a book that includes all three books in one and it was only 12.97 at Walmart, instead of 21.99 at Borders. It's called "His Dark Materials" - 929 pages I doubt I'll finish it even in 10 days.

Oh oh just realized how long the post is, sorry.

Catch Ya Later.

P.S. On the book give away. Maybe you should ask that they also give the book to someone to pass along. Hey you could put a paper inside, with a return address, to list their name, where they are from, maybe a comment and ask when the paper is full to send it back to you. Be fun to see when and if they come back.

As the wife says - Dennis your rambling. BYE
