Back in 2006, Larry Knowles, then writing for Vyuz.Com, interviewed me and wrote this article. It pretty much reflected what we'd talked about, though the sequence of the conversation was scrambled a little and as with all interviews, some things were taken a little out of context. In all, I was pleased and didn't think anything was presented incorrectly. Usually interviews like this result in misspellings of my name, pronouncements that I live and work in NYC or L.A. or that I was some sort of superspy in an earlier life.

A year later Larry emailed and asked if he could do a humorous interview about "shooting nudes for free" for his latest gig with NaughtyAmerican.Com, a soft porn and sex talk site. I liked the idea of such a spoof, as times are such that anyone with a camera can claim to be a photographer for exactly that reason. Cuts down on the strip club costs, you know. I also recommended that Larry talk to my friend Lucky (linked on the side), as he's got a great sense of humor and I figured he'd enjoy it. Larry also had another guy in NY lined up, though I didn't know who it was at the time. The new article is here.

As one would expect, the exact people being spoofed have gotten all strange and huffy about having their game plan blown and raised a stink at a place I sometimes visit, mostly to find models for my work. The loudest whiners were the ones who really, actually use that sort of advice we spoofed in the article. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

Anyway, go read all that silly stuff and let me know what you think. I'll even publish comments that blast me for my insensitivity. Really.

Edit: Anyone else notice that the stock market responds to all sorts of thing, but the only thing that almost guarantees an instant 2% drop in value is when President Bush talks about it?

Being honest is one of those things that I really appreciate. I thought it was tongue in cheek, but it really is how some people use to get a free strip show. I remember some complaints around here about the exact thing, a GWC.

The difference is, as I see it, is similar to how our friends see randy old men. I have two friends, M and S. S is your basic creepy pervert, sticks cameras practically into cleavages, leers at women, and takes pictures of them on the nude beach. Generally, he's just kind of creepy. Your GWC.

Now, M on the other hand. He doesn't really have a camera, but he's friendly and forward. You know that he's going to grope you just as you know he'll stop when you don't. But, there is something about him that makes you feel at ease. A honesty while respecting boundaries that, when you feel him crawling up your shirt with his head to "tickle", it actually feels good. Yeah, he might get a grope in there, but you end up laughing instead of feeling like you need a shower. If he had a camera, I would pose, pure and simple. Because I trust him.

It is that honest, I think that makes a difference between a GWC and a true artist.

I thought that article was great fun. Only a complete moron would take it seriously.

It just proves once again that MM is populated by idiots. I'm glad I don't go there any more.

The article was a good satire.

Some of those responses are why I don't post in forums.

That being said...will you add me as a friend? :P

I read the article on NaughtyAmerican, and two of the threads on MM. The NA article was brilliantly funny, and the MM threads were just sequels to the funny.

I love it all, and hope the people on MM keep the story going, it keeps me entertained at my day job.

I have to agree with Anonymous.

Sadly, the people complaining on MM will see the funny in neither the article nor the MM thread.

What I mostly got from your article is that I'm doing it wrong.

For what I have invested in photography, I could have gone to a strip club every weekend for several years, and strippers not only get naked without persuasion, you can occasionally touch one if you behave yourself. Economically, strip clubs would be a much more sensible choice to see Real Live Nude Girls.

St Marc,

Of course it would. Uh, but then you have to share them...

A good point, but if you go at the right time, the stripper/client ratio can be at or above parity. A polite fellow who isn't afraid to tip once in a while can really enjoy himself at times like that. :)

This is kinda long for a comment, so nix it if you want, but you and your readers may find it Amusing...

I had a shoot Tuesday with a model who ONLY shoots nudes with me, and hadn't ever done anything but covered nudes. The reason for this is that she had some body issues, which she has worked very hard to correct. I knew she wanted to do some nudes, so I very gently talked her through it.

Well, there was another model in the kitchen, who could hear us, but couldn't see us. After the first model left, she started teasing me about how I was a slimy photographer who fast-talked models into taking their clothes off when they didn't want to. Upon reflection, if all you did was listen to me talk - and you didn't know that the other model and I have been friends for several years and have worked together many times before - that's EXACTLY what it sounded like.

Oh noes! I am teh GWC!
