Last night it rained, but I didn't notice. I'd had a sore throat all day and fell asleep earlier than usual and awoke eleven and a half hours later feeling great. Did the semi-weekly laundry first so I'd have my full wardrobe of Carhartt trousers available, then rode the sexy little Italian supermoto downtown to a cafe I like and read the Sunday paper, skipping only the sports section. Had a toasted chili and cheddar bagel with bacon, eggs, tomato and mayo and drank a cup of their perfectly roasted Alta Pluma coffee.

Typical Sunday. When I get to the office tomorrow folks will inquire about my weekend, in order that they may tell me about skiing in Canada or their recent trip to Pago Pago or the Bahamas. Oh, once in awhile I'll take a trip here or there, but the norm for me is to hang out, clean the chain lube off the bikes, read a little, maybe scan some film, drink coffee, ride around town trying to scuff more off the edges of the tires, and take it easy. Taking it easy appeals to me right now. I'm pretty sure the work to plan something extra special wouldn't be off-set by the wonderfulness of that extra-special thing. But I don't always feel like this - just lately.

There are some factors that contribute to this stay-home attitude. Money, of course. Cost of gas, losses on the market, the general reluctance to spend money that goes with an economy like we're experiencing. Health. I've been sick with the flu, then a sinus infection and though both are gone I'm not feeling terribly robust. I hate feeling fragile, but that's about it these days. And maybe more than anything else there's this persistent feeling that there's nothing really left to do that I haven't done already.

I expect all this will change shortly. I do have a month of vacation to use up and enough money to do most anything that I'd want. Just gotta figure out what it is I want. As always, knowing what I really want is the hardest part.

I think I want to start shooting again. The last few rolls of film had the frames spaced unevenly (typical of a Pentax 6x7 wearing out the film carrier), so I'll have to prep one of the backup bodies and tag this one for spare parts. As I recall, one of the backups already spaces irregularly too though. Have to get that all sorted out. Maybe buy a new P67 body, one of those plastic ones with auto-exposure. Still be able to use my wonderful lenses that way.

Anyway, this is Paige thumbing through a Bruno Bisang book.
